Families want and need accurate, timely information about the development of their children, as well as connection to local parenting resources. With partnering agencies through a 100-Day Challenge Team, the community mapped all of the parenting education resources available to families. A pilot program is underway in High Point to determine the effectiveness of having a parent educator — a professional who is an expert in child development and positive parenting — embedded into a pediatric practice and in OB/GYN settings. This allows families to get questions answered in a setting where they trust the source of information. Similar services have been embedded at Cone Health Children’s Center for three years, with excellent results.
In addition, a Family Engagement strategy, including a “hub” for credible information for families, will be launched in early 2017.
